Soreq NRC is an applied R&D Institute affiliated to the Israel
Atomic Energy Commission. Its R&D activities include laser and
electro optics, nuclear medicine, radiopharmaceutics,
non-destructive testing, space components characterization and
testing, crystal growth, development of innovative radiation
detectors and sophisticated equipment for contraband detection. It
offers radiation protection training, and operates personal
dosimetry service. It is a major distributor of
radio-pharmaceuticals for medical diagnostics and therapy.

ElectroOptics |
 |
|
A center of excellence for development of high power lasers,
nonlinear optics, solid-state devices, and photonic and non linear
materials. Scientists, engineers and technicians carry out projects
from research through proof of concept and prototyping, to a (small
scale) production of systems for environmental remote sensing,
various industrial applications and homeland security.

Non-Destructive Testing |
 |
|
The center develops and applies NDT methods for specific industrial
needs using: X, g and neutron radiography, computerized tomography,
micro-focus radiography and micro-tomography, ultrasonics etc. It
specializes in design and construction of systems based on
proprietary innovative radiation detectors and software. Of special
interest are various systems for automatic detection and
identification of contraband of explosives and drugs.

National Radiation Safety Center |
 |
|
A center of know-how in safety aspects of ionizing (x-ray, neutrons,
alphas) and non-ionizing (UV, cellular phones and antennas, laser,
microwave) radiation. Serves the public in areas of work with
radioactive materials and sources, incident prevention and
management, legal aspects, exposure inspection, radiation level
measurements etc. The center operates sophisticated equipment,
develops and applies innovative radiation measurement methods,
actively participates in development and writing of specifications
and regulations and serves the authorities in inspection of
radiation levels at workplaces.

Israel Research Reactor 1 (IRR1) |
 |
|
Israeli Research Reactor 1 (IRR1), first inaugurated in 1960, was
donated by the USA government in the framework of "Atoms for Peace"
program of President Eisenhower, to foster the use of nuclear
technologies for the advancement of Israeli economy. The 5 MW
reactor is of the "light water open swimming pool" type. The main
areas of application of IRR1 include research and training in
nuclear engineering, neutron radiography and diffraction, activation
analysis and changing colors of semi-precious and precious stones.
IRR1 is safeguarded by the IAEA.

Space Environment |
 |
|
Simulating the space environment at low, medium or geostationary
earth orbits; testing and monitoring the quality of materials and
electronic components to be used in space environment; creating a
data archive on materials and electronic components; basic research
in related areas. Collaboration with the Israeli Space Agency in its
joint international programs.

Medical Diagnostics Instrumentation |
 |
ElectroOptical Ultrasound is a new medical imaging method based on
the combination of transmission of light and ultrasound, technique
able to give functional images (e.g. organs’ oxygenation and to
detect anomalies in tissue metabolism) on top of morphological
images.
Innovative g-camera based on CZT solid state spectroscopic detectors
with the head of just few kilograms may replace the bulky Anger
cameras in nuclear medicine diagnostics.

Radiopharmaceutics |
 |
Manufacture and distribution of nuclear medicine products for
diagnostics (imaging, cardiology) and therapy. The product line
includes both radioactive isotopes and inert carriers for leading
the isotopes to the desired organs.
The products are distributed in bulk form (for preparation in the
nuclear medicine establishment) or as single units, for specific
patients, calibrated for the time of treatment.
